How to Have an Authentic Vacation

At some point in my journey of becoming a self-proclaimed locavore, vacations have become, well, different.  I’m always up for traveling, but I’ve found that eating on the road can damn near ruin a vacation.  There seems to be a very fine and almost invisible line between wanting to experience the local cuisine and all [...]

This Weekend In Kansas City

It’s cold and rainy in Kansas City today, but according to my seasonal allergies, spring is upon us.  Thank God.  I embrace every season.  I really do.  But I was losing my grip with winter.  It’s time for spring.  Kansas City, get ready for a season of farmers markets, new restaurants, farm tours and fairs.  [...]

Last evening I attended Slow Food KC’s Harvest in the Vineyard event at Somerset Ridge Vineyard & Winery.  Man, anyone who thinks Kansas City is not an exciting place to be right now is sorely mistaken.  There are so many things going on with the local food movement that inspiration lies on every corner.

Photos from Green Dirt Farm Tour

The week is getting by without me posting some photos from our tour last Sunday at Green Dirt Farm in Weston, MO.  If you have never tried their sheep milk cheese before you are really missing out.  I have to include a quote from their website to describe their cheese, because it says it all:

If you were to ask me at the beginning of this season, “What’s the BEST farmer’s market in KC?”, I would have said City Market.  It’s the biggest, of course.  Now that I have been to more markets around the city, though, I don’t think my answer would be the same.  Let me put it [...]
